Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.
I have no idea what this blog will end up being predominantly about. It may be a version of my bucket list, notes and ideas about things I want to do, places I want to visit. It may be a weight loss/self-acceptance journal about my continued journey to find out who I really am and make the outside and inside mesh. It may be a religious or political blog at times, or a social commentary on the world around me. I suppose I don’t really want to put a category on it, life is so varied and random – why shouldn’t this blog be the same?
One thing that will hopefully ring true, no matter what the topic each entry is about, is that life it about persevering. Martin Luther, German professor of theology and father of the Protestant Reformation is quoted as saying the following: “Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.” To me this is a call to arms of sorts; it is an appeal to not let the possibility of tomorrow effect your today.
Life is about the here and now - the people you love, the things you are passionate about and this is a lesson I aim to explore in this next year. For too long I have lived in the “someday” of life, dreaming about what might be if I just lose that 100 pounds, if I had that degree, if I meet that right guy. But living in a maybe world isn’t fair to who I am today and who I could be if I allowed myself the chance to try, fail and experience life rather than just dream about it.
